Dr. Mike Thompson Address MSSARDA

Members of the Mid-South Search & Rescue Dog Association (MSSARDA), a North Mississippi-based non-profit organization, hosted a educational presentation at the Marshall County Library in Holly Springs on Saturday, Dec. 10.
The presentation featured Dr. Mike Thompson of the Willow Bend Animal Clinic, who addressed the topic of Field Medicine and Emergency Care for Working Search & Rescue K9s.
Methods for safely handling an injured dog, including creation of a improvised muzzle, were addressed, as was the importance of immediate life-saving care to stop severe bleeding, and treatments and methods to address emergencies like poisoning, snake bite, severe fractures, and more.
Officer Mark Kaply of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Dept. also addressed the group, discussing the need for additional classes focusing on crime scene preservation, autism awareness, elder abuse and related concerns.
The valuable information shared was greatly appreciated by the attendees, and the MSSARDA group looks forward to future opportunities to learn new information and updates, especially those regarding the protection and protection of the team’s 16 valued K9 partners and candidate K9s in training.
